Established as a department within the Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Engineering in 2004, the Afyon Kocatepe University Food Engineering Department became a full-fledged department that same year. The first students were admitted in the 2005-2006 academic year, and the first graduates received their diplomas in 2008.

Secondary education commenced in the 2008-2009 academic year. The department began admitting students to its master’s program in the 2006-2007 academic year and to its doctoral program in the 2010-2011 academic year. The Afyon Kocatepe University Food Engineering Department consists of two main branches: Food Science and Food Technology.

The department has a total of 10 academic staff : 2 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 1 Research Assistant with PhD, and 1 Lecturer.
